SUPPORT, ASSESSMENT AND QUALIFICATION

One of the biggest concerns learners have when starting a professional qualification is whether they will have enough time, support and guidance to successfully complete it.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring has been designed to fit around busy professional and personal commitments. You can work through the online learning at your own pace, accessing the materials whenever and wherever it suits you. Whether you prefer to study in focused blocks or little and often, the programme gives you the flexibility to learn in a way that works for you.

However, flexibility does not mean you are left to complete the qualification alone.

Throughout your qualification journey, you will have access to experienced tutors and assessors who can support you with understanding the assessment requirements, planning your evidence and progressing through the assignments. Guidance materials, templates and resources are available through the learning platform, and personalised support is available whenever you need additional help or clarification.

As an ILM Direct Claims Status Centre, The BCF Group is trusted to deliver, assess and quality assure qualifications directly on behalf of ILM. This means that our experienced team will support you from enrolment through to certification, providing clear, constructive feedback designed to help you successfully achieve the qualification.

What Will I Need to Complete?

To achieve the qualification, learners complete a combination of online learning, practical coaching or mentoring activity and assessed work.

This includes:
  • Online learning modules covering coaching and mentoring principles, communication skills, coaching models, ethics, supervision, reflective practice and evaluating client progress.
  • Guided reflection activities designed to support your development as a reflective practitioner.
  • Unit 500, a theory-based assignment exploring the principles and practice of effective coaching and mentoring within an organisational context. This assignment is typically around 5,000 words, and learners should expect to spend approximately 40 hours completing it.
  • Unit 501, a portfolio of evidence documenting approximately 18 hours of coaching or mentoring practice with 2–3 clients, together with at least one hour of supervision. Learners typically spend around 60 hours completing this unit, including the coaching or mentoring hours themselves.
  • Unit 503, an evidence-based reflective journal and professional development plan requiring approximately 20 hours of work.
Learners have up to three years from registration to complete the qualification, allowing plenty of flexibility to work around professional and personal commitments.

Looking for the Learning,
not the Qualification?

For some learners, the knowledge and skills are the priority rather than the qualification itself. If you want to develop your coaching and mentoring capability but do not need a formal qualification, our ILM Recognised Business Coaching and Mentoring programme may be a better fit.

The Recognised programme covers the same core learning content but does not require the completion of assignments, coaching portfolios, reflective journals, supervision records or coaching-hour requirements.

If your goal is to gain a recognised Level 5 qualification and demonstrate both knowledge and practical coaching competence, the ILM Level 5 Certificate is the right choice. If your primary objective is to learn effective coaching and mentoring skills and apply them within your role, the ILM Recognised programme may be the more suitable option.
